New mall in Singapore!! That’s what my dad said a day before we went to Singapore last week. Yeah, just for transit to Thailand from Batam. My dad said, “We should see this new mall.” I was just curious, what kind of mall, how does it look? I said, “I’ll see it tomorrow!”

VivoCity is the name of this new mall. Singapore’s largest and most iconic retail and lifestyle destination, has specially commissioned an international art collection as part of the Singapore Biennale 2006. The collection comprises seven outdoor art and street furniture designs by six world-renowned artists. Hailing from various cities in Europe and Asia, these artists have had their works exhibited all over the world and made their mark globally as leading artists.

With more than 1 million sq ft of space, VivoCity is the largest retail and lifestyle destination in Singapore. Offering a diverse mix of up to 450 retail, food and beverage and entertainment outlets, including the largest multiplex with 15 screens and 2200 seats by multiplex giant, Golden Village, as well as a new concept hypermarket. VivoCity will also boast a stimulating mix of year-round events and activities that will define it as Singapore’s ultimate lifestyle destination.

Designed by renowned Japanese architect, Toyo Ito, VivoCity’s unique design incorporates breathtaking open spaces for waterfront alfresco dining and the staging of world-class events and performances in a 1000-seat amphitheatre. Adjacent to the sea and hence subject to chloride attack, the project was in need of a high-performance waterproofing product for the basement structure.

A thriving trade is assured, with the Harbour Front MRT station at its doorstep, a direct rail link to Sentosa via the new Sentosa Express, the proximity of the Singapore Cruise Centre and several large-scale residential developments nearby.

We took a look around for about 2 hours in this mall. Ouch, too bad this is the first day, and still a soft opening. Still a lot of outlets have not opened yet. The grand opening itself will be launched on December 2006. Well, at least I can be the one of the first people to see this brand new mall in Singapore!!
